The Ministry of Transportation redesigned McTavish Interchange on the Patricia Bay Highway to improve traffic safety as well as access to and from Victoria International Airport. This project is located on the busy Highway 17 corridor that connects Victoria BC to the Victoria International Airport, the Swartz Bay ferry terminal and communities on the Saanich Peninsula.
This Windley Contracting project will improve safety and reduce travel time for motorist, while improving vehicle service to the airport and the ferry terminal. The roundabout intersections are installed to help support traffic and keep the flow of traffic moving. Pedestrians and cyclists have a dedicated overpass to cross the Patricia Bay Highway from Lockside drive and McTavish Road.
The interchange features multi-lane, modern roundabouts to efficiently distribute traffic and to maintain effective connections to the local road network. Environmental benefits include more efficient energy use, better air quality and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The project includes an expansion of a Park-and-Ride lot, a seperate exchange for BC Transit and easy access for future Rapid Transit Service.
