The Scope of Work
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure hired us to construct 2.3 kilometres of a new four-lane highway while keeping the adjacent two-lane highway operational, protecting environmentally sensitive creeks, and ensuring all blasting work met the highest safety standards.
The project involved tree removal, rock blasting, landscaping and building a bridge, retaining wall, sound wall, pedestrian underpass, new highway grade, septic fields, frontage road improvements, and underground drainage utilities. The scale required disciplined management, scheduling, coordination, and reporting.
By working transparently with the owner, we met project goals. The highway was completed without disrupting traffic, and we minimized environmental impacts through careful planning and collaboration.
The Results
- Created detailed shop drawings and a rigorous site safety program, ensuring a consistently safe work environment for team members and the public.
- Blasted and removed 270,000m3 of rock with our in-house blasting and crushing division.
- Engineered traffic plans and collaborated with stakeholders to ensure the continuous operation of the existing highway while keeping the project on schedule and budget.
- Engineered rock fall plans to ensure safe blasting operations next to and above the existing highway.
- Completed sensitive draining work in creeks during fish timing windows and built new draining box culverts while maintaining traffic.
