British Columbia Highway 4, known locally as the Alberni Highway and the Pacific Rim Highway is the longest west-east vehicle route on Vancouver Island. This highway is the main road to access the Town of Tofino and Ucluelet, which are renowned for having some great beaches for surfing.
Windley Contracting replaced in 2010 two aging log timber structures (the Mercer Creek Bridge and the Brayden Bridge) with two concrete box beam bridges for the ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. Both bridges are located half way from the city of Port Alberni to the Towns of Tofino and Ucluelet.
The Mercer/Brayden bridge reconstruction project also involved successful full time traffic detours in remote location.
